Bradley Cox: Communications Law Prize winner
Meet Bradley Cox! Originally from Chatham Ontario, Bradley is a fourth year student majoring in Law with a concentration in Law, Policy and Government. Bradley is also the recipient of this year’s Communications Law Prize and has been involved with many student groups on campus.

What lead you to pursue your degree at Carleton?
Choosing Carleton was easy. I developed an interest in the law in high school but quickly realized the scarcity of undergraduate legal programs. Carleton’s program is the oldest of its kind and perfectly located for students to fully explore their legal passions. I could not pass up such an inviting opportunity and, to this day, I have no doubt I made the right choice.
What is your favourite part of the program?
Pinpointing one favourite part of the program is challenging. However, I would be remiss if I did not mention the Department’s excellent faculty. In the past four years, I have had the opportunity to meet scholars and professionals from every corner of the legal world, each offering a distinct approach to the study of law. My instructors enabled me to truly nurture my passion for the legal field across so many unique and rich courses.
What do you hope to do after graduation?
I hope to spend a couple of years advocating for Canadian energy and shaping environmental policies and regulations. Ultimately, my goal is to attend law school with an environmental and administrative law focus. I hope to use my degree to give back to my community and make our country better for future generations.
Do you have any advice for incoming students?
I have three pieces of advice for incoming students:
- Do the readings! I know they can be a lot, but I truly believe they help you become even more comfortable with the course material. Tests and assignments become much easier when you feel confident about your course knowledge.
- Get involved! Carleton has an excellent student community with plenty of wonderful organizations. I promise having an extracurricular will make you an even stronger student and peer and lead to lasting friendships.
- Take care of yourself and have fun! Please don’t stay up until 2:00 am working on assignments. Being healthy is the key to success, so don’t be afraid to take a break! Your future self will thank you.
