Ash De Visser awarded Wenner Gren Dissertation Fieldwork Grant
We are pleased to share that PhD student, Ash De Visser, has been awarded the Wenner Gren Dissertation Fieldwork Grant!
The Wenner-Gren Foundation is one of the foremost international institutions supporting anthropological scholarship. Since its establishment in 1941, the Foundation has played a major role in advancing anthropology as a global discipline with the mission of fostering comparative, cross-cultural, and historically grounded understandings of humanity.
Ash’s research follows street-corner dice games in Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit, Mexico, to understand how people experience law when everyday practices are technically prohibited but socially tolerated. By focusing on a familiar dice game, the project shows how law takes shape not only through statutes and policing, but through ordinary social life.
Ash is currently living and conducting preliminary ethnographic research in Bahía de Banderas.
