Stephen Waxman brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his teaching in the Department, having worked in the Department of Justice for 31 years within both commercial law and law pertaining to human health and the environment.
Highlights of his career include:
- Legal counsel working as part of a small team for the creation of the Public Agency of Canada and the appointment of Canada’s first Chief Public Health Officer
- Legal counsel responsible for the coordination of the environmental assessment report pertaining to the Confederation Bridge linking PEI to the mainland
- Legal counsel responsible for the creation of the federal environmental assessment agency and its legislation
- Counsel to the Minister of Health during the SARS outbreak
- Responsible as part of a teaching team of three lawyers to bringing environmental issues and their importance to all employees in the Department of Health. The purpose of this exercise was to raise the understanding of his clients to the legal, socio-economic issues related to these areas of the law
