Roosmarijn de Geus

Rose de Geus is a political scientist specialized in the study of elections, gender and public policy. She obtained her PhD at the University of Oxford (2017), completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Toronto (2017-2019) and University of Oxford (2019-2021) and was an Assistant Professor in Comparative Politics at the University of Reading (2021-2023). She has taught courses in the areas of Comparative Politics, US Politics, British Politics, Gender Studies and Quantitative Methods.

Her research interests lie with the comparative study of elections, with a particular focus on how attitudes about gender and gender roles shape voting behaviour, candidate selection and policy preferences. Her current academic work focuses on understanding public preferences on parental leave, in Canada and beyond.

Her work has been published in journals such as Comparative Political Studies, the British Journal of Political Science and the Canadian Journal of Political Science. She also co-edited the book “Women, Power and Political Representation: Canadian and Comparative Perspectives” (2021, UofT Press).

She currently works for the Canadian Federal Government as a Senior Economist and holds an Adjunct Professor affiliation with Carleton University.
