Call for Undergraduate Students

Expressions of Interest from undergraduate students to fill several vacant positions on the Senate for a one-year term, from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, are now being accepted.

Vacancies are outlined below:

  • Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences – 3 vacancies
  • Faculty of Public and Global Affairs – 3 vacancies
  • Faculty of Engineering and Design – 2 vacancies
  • Faculty of Science – 1 vacancy
  • Sprott School of Business – 1 vacancy

The deadline for Undergraduate Student Expressions of Interest closes February 28, 2025, at 4 p.m.

Elections

Online elections will be held March 11-12, 2025, for any contested positions. If a position is not contested, the nominated candidate(s) will be acclaimed and no election will be required.

After March 28, vacancies will be filled on a first-come first-served basis, provided that the candidate meets eligibility requirements and completes the nomination form in its entirety.

Eligibility Requirements

Students elected to Senate must meet the following requirements:

  • Previous academic governance experience at the faculty or department level at Carleton University
  • Be registered at the university in an undergraduate program
  • Be registered in at least one course in each of the Fall and Winter terms in the academic year when they were elected and during their period of service
  • Have completed successfully at least 4.0 credits prior to service
  • Maintain the academic status of “Eligible to Continue” throughout their period of service
  • If any of these requirements are not satisfied during the term of service, the student must resign from this position.

  • Students elected to Senate must have been previously elected to a governance position at the faculty or department level.
  • Statement

    Please provide a brief description on why you would like to serve on Senate. In the case of election, this will appear on the Senate website.

    Personal information collected through this form will be used and disclosed by Carleton University under the authority of the Carleton University Act, 1952, and in accordance with sections 39, 41 and 42 of Ontario’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The purpose of this processing is to administer the application and nomination process for Senate positions. March 17, 2025: Candidates are notified of the election outcomes/post on web
March 28, 2025: Senate meeting – member ratifications
March 31, 2025: Announcement in Inside Senate
