The Carleton community is saddened to learn of the passing on February 16, 2018, of Dr. Giovanna Panico, professor of Italian language, and passionate advocate for Italian language and culture.

Giovanna was a beloved teacher of Italian and Latin at Carleton, acting as Chair of the Italian Department for many years.  She was the founder of Tele-30, which she produced weekly, beginning in 1982. She was named Cavaliere della Repubblica as a recipient of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic for her dedication to community service.

Family and friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 585 Somerset St. W., on Thursday, February 22, from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Anthony’s of Padua Church, 427 Booth St. in Ottawa on Friday, February 23 at 10 a.m., followed by a reception in the church hall.
