SLaLS congratulates MA student Hesam Farahani on winning the Full-time Student Academic Excellence Award from the Graduate Students’ Association.
The $1000 GSA Full-time Student Academic Excellence Award is awarded annually in the Winter term to a returning, full-time graduate student, at either the Master’s or Doctoral level, who has demonstrated academic excellence while studying at Carleton, but who has not received any internal or external funding.
The future of this award, however, is at risk due to potential impact from the recent Student Choice Initiative enacted by this year the Ontario government. A notice on the GSA website reads:
“We are currently not accepting applications until September due to the Government’s Student Choice Initiative, which has major impacts on our ability to fund grants, awards and scholarships. For more details on the disastrous effect of the Student Choice Initiative, visit https://cfsontario.ca/action/”
