Congratulations to Julie McCarroll for receiving Carleton University’s Excellence in Blended and Online Teaching Award for 2023. This award, presented by Teaching and Learning Services, recognizes exceptional educators who excel in blended, HyFlex, and online teaching. It is a well-deserved honour for Julie, who joins the esteemed ranks of previous SLALS faculty award recipients Eva Kartchava (2015) and Peggy Hartwick (2013).
“My award application primarily detailed the evolution and merging of several assignments that draw on experiential learning, 21st-century skills, and gamification. Submitted in cuPortfolio, these assignments are guided by the rationale that L2 students acquire the target language more successfully if they are pushed out of their “comfort zones” to participate in cultural activities, both at Carleton and in the larger Ottawa community. My application also explained the creation and evolution of H5P interactive modules, which I now use to blend my online course while still providing students with engaging and interactive materials that provide immediate feedback.”
Congratulations once again on this remarkable accomplishment!
