Each year, Housing and Residence Life Services sends out a survey to all students living in residence to invite them to submit a nomination for their favourite faculty member. The survey asks: Who is the faculty member, and why are they so great?

We are pleased to share that ASL instructors David Morton, Denise DeShaw, and Paul Bourgeois, and Portuguese instructor Sandra Anacleto, have each received nominations for the 2023-2024 Favourite Faculty Member survey.

Read about what students living in residence shared about David, Denise, Paul, and Sandra below.

David Morton

“So nice, cares about his students, he’s just so kind I can’t stress that enough!!”

Denise DeShaw

“I was so nervous to have ASL classes in-person for the first time after 3 years of online ASL classes but Denise has made this past semester so much better than I could have imagined. She is a great professor and very engaging; her personality really brightens the class up. Not only has she taught me a lot, but she has reignited my passion for ASL which felt like it was burning out after so long of learning it from a screen.”

Paul Bourgeois

“They have a very welcoming demeanor that makes me excited for each class. You can tell he wants his class to succeed.”

“He provides a safe learning environment with students, where they feel like they can shamelessly make mistakes while learning. In addition, he is positive, encouraging, inspiring, supportive, and caring toward his students.”

Sandra Anacleto

“Kindness.”
