35 years since the fall of the Berlin wall and last Thursday evening a group of our German students and their instructors gathered in SP 337 to acknowledge this historical landmark moment.

“What belongs together is now growing together!”
– Willy Brandt

The event opened with a welcome speech from German instructor Cristina Finger.

Next, Mrs Valentina Goldmann, Head of Press and Cultural Department at the German Embassy, presented a series of informational panels timelining the series of peaceful events leading up to the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Mrs. Goldmann makes a presentation in front of a group of students.

In her presentation, Mrs. Goldmann connected the messages in these panels to language learning as a tool to bring down the walls in peoples’ minds and to create future opportunities for students.

The panels are located on the 3rd floor of the St. Patrick’s Building and will be on display there until the end of November.

A presentation and Kahoot created by German TA, Teresa Thomblison, wrapped up the night with prizes provided by the German Embassy.

Much appreciation to Cristina Finger for her organizing efforts, to students and German instructors for their active participation, and to the School of Linguistics & Language Studies and the Embassy of Germany for their financial support.
