Four Carleton alums are on their way to Japan as part of this year’s JET (Japan Exchange & Teaching) programme.

The group, part of Ottawa’s fourteen-member cohort, left Saturday after a Friday evening celebration held in their honour at the Embassy of Japan in Ottawa.

Attended by Embassy officials, a representative of Global Affairs Canada, and many well-wishers, the event featured speeches by Minister Furuya Tokuro, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Japan, Gordon Platt, Senior Advisor from Global Affairs Canada, and outgoing JET Mariam Fahmy.  The event was also attended by participants’ former language instructors, including two from Carleton, Yoko Azuma-Prikryl and Elizabeth Sowka.

Good luck to all JETs as they begin their new ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) adventures in Japan!

More than 150 Canadian JETs are participating in this year’s programme, the 38th since its inception in 1987.
