It has been a bustling fall for the Carleton Applied and Theoretical Linguistics (CATL) Society, and the end of term marks an exciting milestone for the student group. Members of CATL have been busy painting their mark on a stretch of wall in the tunnel near the Architecture building.

“Painting in Carleton’s tunnels has been such a bucket list moment,” Kennedy says.

Over the course of the fall term, the undergraduate student group, led by Holly (President), Kennedy (VP Finance), Amber (VP Social), and Elizabeth (VP Internal), have been hosting informative events, bringing students together to learn about the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and the ins and outs of graduate school applications.

The CATL mural has been an ongoing project, with planning spanning back to the spring. “It has been so exciting to have this year’s CATL executive team come together and successfully execute this project,” Kennedy shares.

At the end of November, CATL hosted an event for faculty to view their mural.

“The CATL team did a wonderful job with the mural,” shares Karen Jesney, undergraduate advisor for our undergraduate programs. “It’s great to see students getting involved, and to see SLaLS represented in the tunnels!”
