Adventures Abroad: Emilie LePage-Bourbonnais Teaching English in South Korea

Recent graduate Emilie LePage-Bourbonnais has been accepted to teach English in South Korea with the English Program in Korea (EPIK).

“We’re thrilled to see Emilie succeed in the EPIK program,” Hyounjeong Yoo, coordinator of our Korean language program, shares. “Through our Memorandum of Understanding with the Korean government, Carleton students receive special benefits when applying to EPIK, including priority consideration and additional support throughout the application process.”

“As coordinator of our Korean language program, I have the privilege of guiding students like Emilie through this opportunity, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see them take their language skills and cultural knowledge into the classroom in South Korea.”

Emilie completed a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Linguistics with a concentration in Psycholinguistics and Communication Disorders and a minor in Korean Language. She also completed her Certificate in the Teaching of English as a Second Language (CTESL) during her time at Carleton University.

“Over the course of my five years at Carleton, I took classes to receive my CTESL and took many Korean language courses with Carleton’s great Korean language instructors,” Emilie shares. “I was introduced to the EPIK recruitment program and was encouraged to apply under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) partnership with EPIK.”

“The support during the application process meant a lot to me, knowing there were people cheering me on for each step, including announcing to me when I was accepted to become an English teacher in South Korea!”
