“This innovative initiative explores how Korean language learners perceive textbooks and course materials, emphasizing student voice rather than traditional educator-centered perspectives,” Yoo, coordinator for Korean language programming at Carleton, shares. “By integrating critical cultural content and moving beyond Western-centric frameworks, the project aims to foster more inclusive, authentic, and globally informed learning experiences.”

“Through this research-driven pedagogical approach, students engage with real-world cultural texts, media, and community-based learning to broaden their understanding of Korean language and identity beyond conventional narratives. The project reflects Carleton’s commitment to experiential learning and culturally responsive education.”

CUELF provides support to create and enhance experiential learning for both undergraduate and graduate students in courses and disciplinary programs across the university. Click here to learn more about the fund.
