2025 Lynne Young ALDS Graduate Award Recipient Announced
Congratulations to this year’s recipient of the Lynne Young ALDS Graduate Award, Mar Pauls. The award was announced by long-time friend and colleague of Lynne Young, Dr. Trudy O’Brien, at the Graduate Student Symposium on Friday, April 4.
Mar Pauls is a master’s student in Applied Linguistics and Discourse Studies. A recent recipient of Best Poster Award at the Western Interdisciplinary Student Symposium on Language Research, Mar’s research interests center lesbian identity and the gender diversity that is present in the queer community. By investigating how heteronormative ideologies of gender may be perpetuated in the queer community in Canada today, Mar encourages future research into the ways in which queer Canadians define themselves.
The Lynne Young ALDS Graduate Award was established in 2019 in memory of Dr. Lynne Young to honor her contributions to SLaLS and her community. Awarded annually on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Linguistics and Language Studies, this award recognizes academic excellence at the graduate level.
