The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) hosted 750 high school students from the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) for a series of poster presentations at Carleton University December 15-17, 2025. Over the course of the fall term OCDSB students collaborated with FASS faculty members on projects relating to their course work.

On December 17, an ESL class from Glebe Collegiate Institute presented the projects that they created as part of this new CU-OCDSB learning partnership. Over the course of eight weeks SLaLS faculty member and ESLA coordinator Mike Murphy collaborated with Glebe Collegiate Institute teacher Liam Baylis to help students use basic corpus linguistics methods to analyze an Indigenous memoir that they read as part of their curriculum.

Building on this CU-OCDSB connection, in May 2026 Mike Murphy and SLaLS professor Don Myles will be offering a five-day, on-campus mini-course for ESL high school students who want to accelerate their language learning.
