Sabbatical On the Move: Talking Spanish in Greece

During a recent trip to Athens, Greece, Spanish professor Janett Martinez-Amador met with Gregoria López García, Chair of the Spanish program at the Cervantes Institute in Athens to exchange experiences in teaching Spanish in postsecondary settings.

The discussion focused on a range of topics, including student learning experiences, strategic use of L1 and L2 in Spanish classes, student profiles, language placement testing, distribution of teaching hours devoted to content and language skills development at introductory and advanced levels, technology free learning environments, the integration of culture into language teaching and the characteristics of the DELE and SIELE exams as internationally recognized assessments of Spanish language proficiency promoted by Instituto Cervantes.

Janett is currently on sabbatical and will return to teaching in July 2027.
