Contract Instructor (CCDP & ESLA)

Sandra Anacleto is a seasoned educator with over two decades of experience in language instruction, curriculum development, and academic support across post-secondary institutions in Canada. At Carleton University, she has been a Contract Instructor since 2013, teaching in the School of Linguistics and Language Studies. Her primary focus is on English for Academic Purposes (EAP)Communication Skills for Engineering Students (CCDP), and Portuguese Language (PORT) courses, both in-person and online. She specializes in academic English instruction for undergraduate students, with a focus on communication skills for engineering students and newcomers to Canada. In EAP, she provides essential language support to students for whom English is not their first language, while in CCDP courses, she helps students become effective communicators.

Sandra holds an Honours BA in English Literature, an MA in Theoretical Linguistics from York University and is a certified OCELT and ICTEAL instructor through TESL Ontario, and a D-TEIL certificate through Glendon College, at York University.

Her experience spans diverse educational environments, including private language schools, school boards, and universities in Canada. Her teaching integrates technology-enhanced learning platforms such as MS Teams, Brightspace, Moodle, and she regularly incorporates tools like Quizlet, Kahoot, Woo Clap, and Brisk Teaching to foster student engagement and academic success.

She has developed and delivered a wide range of courses tailored to diverse learner needs, including introductory to advanced ESL, academic bridging, and professional communication for engineering students. Her commitment to inclusive education is reflected in her work with the Scholars at Risk ProgramElsie MacGill Learning Centre, and LINC-funded adult ESL programs at OCSB.

Sandra is also an active mentor, having hosted multiple CTESL practicum students from Carleton University and Algonquin College. She contributes to curriculum committees, academic governance, and collaborative teaching initiatives, and has received recognition such as the 2023-24 Favourite Faculty Member Award from Carleton University residence students.

Her research interests include sociolinguistics, phonology, vocabulary and second language acquisition, with past contributions to projects on Portuguese vowel reduction and online learning platforms. Sandra continues to advocate for newcomer integration, multilingual education, and culturally responsive teaching. Sandra’s classes are learner-centered, collaborative, and designed to empower students to thrive academically and professionally.
