Current Program: PhD in ALDS
My interest in researching legal discourse through a critical lens came about after the overturning of Roe v. Wade in the United States. My aim is to better understand the discursive strategies being used to enact power over marginalized groups such as women and minorities. Before undertaking my doctoral studies, I obtained an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Spanish, and an M.A. in Language Teaching with an emphasis on TESOL. I have taught ESL/EFL for nearly 20 years in places like Qatar, Taiwan, and the U.S. I also worked as an Arabic Linguist for the U.S. Army. The confluence of these interests and experiences led me to study in the unique and invaluable Applied Linguistics and Discourse Studies program at Carleton University.
