When creating new web content, create with accessibility in mind first, not as an afterthought.

How to plan for accessibility:

  1. Become familiar with types of barrier to access. You can also familiarize yourself with WCAG web accessibility guidelines.
  2. Make a plan. Define and document your goals and strategy. Think about accessibility at all stages, not a last-minute checklist.
  3. Know your audience and make your site inclusive for all.
  4. Plan the structure of your website – does your navigation make sense?
  5. Examine your content. Do you need to rewrite or reorganize any text to make it more accessible? Are there a lot of images that need alt text? Do your videos have closed captioning?
