Carleton had an impressive presence at the International Federation for Public History’s 7th world conference which was held in Luxembourg 3-6 September. Carleton’s PhD in Public History – the first in Canada – was very well represented in the conference’s poster session. Rebecca Friend spoke to “Capturing Childhood in Canadian Museums: Findings from a Nation-Wide Survey” while Emma Awe was present in person to speak to “Collaborative Interdisciplinary Public History for Changing Publics in Canada”, a project they are working on with Rebecca as well as Amie Wright and Scott Coleman. Professor David Dean co-facilitated a workshop on the arts and public history and former Carleton MA in Public History students Dany Guay-Belanger and Cassandra Marsillo presented papers. Luxembourg PhD student Camilla Portesani, a recent visitor to the Carleton Centre for Public History, led a working group on redefining authority in museums which included Carleton Professor Monica Patterson.
