David Dean has been promoted to the rank of Distinguished Research Professor with graduate supervision status for a five year term. The promotion recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments and contributions of a retired full professor during their career who is undertaking significant ongoing research activities. Retired as of 1 July, David will continue his work as co-editor of International Public History, the journal of the International Federation for Public History (IFPH) and currently has two books in the press: a critical study of monuments of the National Capital Region co-edited with Sociology’s Tanya Davidson with McGill-Queen’s and Performing Public History forthcoming with Routledge. His next book is The Challenge of Public History for the Cambridge Elements series. Although his six years on the steering committee of IFPH is coming to an end, he will continue to be active in its workshops, conferences, and seminars. This month he co-facilitated a workshop on art and public history at IFPH2024 7th World Public History conference in Luxembourg and will speak a the inaugural meeting of the Brazilian Network of Public History’s Public History Seminar.
