Welcome New Senate Members

The Senate welcomes the following new student members for the 2019/2020 term:

Chair’s Remarks

President Bacon began the meeting with a moment of silence in honour of members of the Carleton community who passed away this March including Sylvain Pitre from ITS, Librarian Flavia Renon, Alumnus Peter DeMarsh, and Prof. Pius Adesanmi. He highlighted that all decanal searches are complete with the recent appointments of Dana Brown as Dean of Sprott School of Business, Larry Kostiuk as Dean of Engineering, and Patrice Smith as Dean of Graduate Studies. President Bacon reiterated the great news of the closing of the $300-million Collaborate Campaign and thanked all students, staff and faculty for making such a success possible.  He invited everyone in the community to visit to FutureFunder crowdfunding site and to contribute to the recently established Pius Adesanmi Memorial Fund and said the university will match every donation to this fund to build on Professor Adesamni’s legacy.

New Minor in Heritage Conservation

Senate approved the introduction of the minor in Heritage Conservation effective Fall 2019.

Introduction of Practicum in Teaching English as Foreign Language

Senate approved the introduction of ALDS 4307 Practicum in Teaching English as Foreign Language effective Fall 2019.

Changes to BA/B.Sc Undeclared Program

Senate approved changes to the Undeclared B.A./B.Sc program, including a name change from Undeclared B.A/B.Sc to the Open Studies B.A./B.Sc., and the introduction of new graduation pathways. Changes will be in effect for the 2018/2019 calendar year.

Senate Committee Review Underway

In line with best practices, Senate will be undergoing a review of its committee structure. Senate approved the formation of a task force to complete this review.

Senator Spotlight: Mariana Esponda

The Senate is composed of 86 members representing the Carleton community, like Mariana Esponda. Mariana is an Associate Professor for the Azrieli School of Architecture and the coordinator of the Architectural Conservation and Sustainability program. Learn more about Mariana.
