Senate met on Feb. 28, here are the highlights:
Senate Approves the Graduation of Over 1,100 Students
Senate congratulates the 798 undergraduate and 355 graduate students who completed all requirements towards graduation in the fall and will be eligible to attend spring convocation.
Convocation Schedule Now Live
The June 2020 convocation schedule is now live on the convocation website. Please review the schedule as there have been changes to ceremony schedules in the Faculty of Public Affairs and the Faculty of Engineering and Design.
Strategic Integrated Plan Draft
The first draft of the Strategic Integrated Plan (SIP) was distributed and reviewed by Senate. Key directions were presented by the SIP co-chairs and Senate’s feedback was solicited on the draft. The final draft will soon be posted publicly for input and comments. It will be presented to Senate on May 29, 2020 for approval.
SMA-3 Update
Provost and Vice-President (Academic) Jerry Tomberlin provided an update on the third Strategic Mandate Agreement (SMA3) process. The agreement is expected to be finalized and signed by the end of March 2020.
Chair’s Remarks
President Bacon offered congratulated to all 2020 Achievement Awards and Service Excellence Awards recipients, and provided an update on recent activities and highlights including the new Carleton and Ericsson partnership and the launch of Raven Magazine. He also spoke to the several important campus events he attended in February such as Carleton’s Black History celebration and the inaugural Kinàmàgawin Symposium.
Senate Medals Policy Modified
Senate approved changes to update the Senate Medals Policy effective Fall 2020. The updated policy can be viewed on the Senate website.
Curriculum Major Modifications Approved
Senate approved several curriculum and calendar modifications, including the introduction of the following:
- Minor in Korean Modern Languages
- Minor in News Media and Information
- Concentration in Economic Data Science to the Bachelor of Economics Honours program
- Post-Baccalaureate in Art History
- Post-Baccalaureate in History and Theory of Architecture
- Stream in Mental Health and Well-Being

Anthropology Cyclical Review Complete
Senate approved the Final Assessment Report and Executive Summary arising from the Cyclical Review of the undergraduate and graduate programs in Anthropology.
Senate & Committee Call for Nominations
