Capstone Projects in TEAL: Summer 2026

Welcome to the 2026 edition of Capstone Projects in TEAL. In this year’s collection, student contributions address such timely topics in the field of Teaching English as an Additional Language as: approaches to corrective feedback for ADHD learners, AI-generated vs human-generated feedback, adoption of Task-Based Language Teaching approaches in Asian contexts, and more.

We hope you enjoy the publication, a culmination of all the hard work, curiosity, and dedication our students have demonstrated throughout the TEAL program, and a showcase of the knowledge, skills, and insights they have developed.

Chuyao Cui explores feedback in the context of the ADHD learner.  What are the unique learning challenges these learners face when presented with constructive feedback and what approaches can instructors use to support greater engagement and uptake?

Ghazal Fathi reviews recent theoretical and empirical research on AI-generated versus teacher-generated feedback, highlighting its relative strengths, limitations, and .complementary roles in effective L2 writing instruction.

Large classes, limited instructional time, and teacher-centric traditions often make communication practice difficult to implement in Asian secondary school classes.  Join Chaomin Jia as she explores uses of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) as a possible (if partial) solution.

Long-established educational traditions can shape and/or curtail the adoption of innovative teaching approaches, as Xinyi Li discovered when exploring the challenges and opportunities of implementing Task-Based Language Teaching in contexts influenced by Confucian heritage values.

As Tian Sang discovered, the decision about whether (or not) and how to incorporate Generative AI into the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom is a complex one, involving teachers’ beliefs, concerns about fairness, and uncertainty about future implications.

The MA in Teaching English as an Additional Language (MA TEAL) is a graduate program designed specifically for international students who aspire to become English language teachers in international contexts. Click here for more information about the program.
