Carleton University is honoured to host the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) in collaboration with the Japan Foundation.

Date and Location of Exam

Sunday, December 3^rd, 2023 at Carleton University

Application

The application period is September 5^th, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. to September 29^th, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. Online applications only.

To apply, you must have given consent to all the items contained in the JLPT Test Guide, including the items concerning handling of personal information. The JLPT Test Guide can be found here.

Upon the completion of application and payment, you will receive a voucher by October 20^th. If you have not received your voucher after October 20^th, please contact us.

Fees

$85 CAD (non-refundable) for all levels (N1-N5) and ages.*

No refund will be accepted if you miss the test due to the conditions that we cannot control, including sickness, inability to travel, border closures.

* Due to inflation, the JLPT test fee in Canada will increase to $85 in December 2023. Starting from the December 2024 test, the fee will be $100. Thank you very much for your understanding.

Eligibility

The JLPT is open to learners of Japanese as a foreign language. This test is not designed for native speakers of Japanese.

Special Testing Accommodations

If you require special accommodations for the test, please complete the following by September 13^th, 2023. After this deadline and if you wish to request special testing accommodations, please contact jlpt@carleton.ca before your apply.

Regulations

Failure to bring a government issued photo ID will result in a DISQUALIFICATION
Back of voucher MUST be blank (i.e. cannot be printed on the back of used paper)
Absolutely NO writing anywhere on the voucher
Cellphones and watch alarms must be TURNED OFF before the test begins. If any sound off during the test, it is an immediate DISQUALIFICATION
Academic dishonesty will result in DISQUALIFICATION

Results

Scores will be available online approximately 3 months after the test has been written. Scores will only be available if, during the application, test takers chose an 8 digit password of their own creation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any study materials or past exams available?

Past JLPT question booklets are published every year by BONJINSHA.

Can I change the level of the test after submitting the application?

If you would like to change the level of the test, it would require a new application and fee. There is no refund in this case.

Can I apply for an exam after the deadline?

No late applications are accepted.

What should I do if I am unable to attend the exam?

You do not have to notify us of your absence. No refund will be given.

What happens if I am late during the test day?

For listening parts of the tests, absolutely no late entries into the test rooms is allowed. For all other parts, no entry is allowed ten minutes after start.

Can I take the exam home?

You cannot take the exam booklet or answer sheet after the exam has been completed.

Can I change the exam location after submitting the application?

You will have to submit a new application and fee. There will be no refund in this case.

Does the JLPT certificate expire?

The certificate is valid for life.
