The Brightspace implementation team has been working hard to get the new Learning Management System (LMS) ready for the Carleton community. Brightspace by D2L will replace cuLearn/Moodle beginning in May 2021.

Implementation and set up of Brightspace has been ongoing throughout the fall. To date, the team has migrated more than 3,000 academic courses to the new LMS, with a focus on summer and winter 2020 academic courses first.

A limited number of Brightspace pilot courses are in development and preparing to launch in January 2021. TLS and D2L will support the pilot courses, their instructors, TAs and students throughout the process.

D2L 24/7/365 support is expected to come online and be available by the end of December, while an initial version of Carleton’s Brightspace Support website is set to launch at the end of December as well. More support topics will continue to be added throughout the new year in preparation for the completed transition to Brightspace in May.

Several third-party tool integrations are now complete in Brightspace, including BigBlueButton, Zoom, textbook publisher integrations (i.e., Wiley, Pearson), Poll Everywhere, Banner and Office 365 mail. Ongoing development continues with configuring the integrations for Kaltura, H5P and Mahara/cuPortfolio.

We look forward to sharing Brightspace with the entire Carleton community when access to sandboxes begins in February 2021.
