Annie Kingston Miller received the Board of Governors Award, which recognizes voluntary involvement in the not-for-profit sector and, as such, is intended primarily to honour non-academic work while pursuing a full-time program of study at Carleton University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work degree this year, and in 2013 earned a Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management–Social Policy degree with a minor in French and Co-operative Education.
Annie has demonstrated an impressive ability to balance school, work and her volunteer commitments. In addition to her work with ESP/AESP, she worked at the Centre for Aboriginal Culture and Education and as a research assistant at the Carleton University Institute on the Ethics of Research with Indigenous Peoples. Her work has been instrumental in encouraging the university to proceed with its plan to establish the Carleton University Institute on the Ethics of Research with Indigenous Peoples. She has also been involved in student government, serving on the Carleton University Senate and Carleton’s First People’s Council. Within the broader Aboriginal community, Annie has been active in the Odawa Friendship Centre, the Dreamcatchers Youth Program, the Anishinaabemowin Language Program and the Aboriginal Education Committee. She is pursuing graduate work in the field of health at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
We’re lucky to have such wonderful student employees supporting our students in ESP & AESP. Congratulations Annie!
