You are cordially invited to attend the third talk in the Department of Psychology’s Proseminar Speaker Series for 2019-20.

On Thursday, October 3, Dr. Jo Anderson (Waterloo) will be giving a talk titled:

‘Psychology and Animal Protection: Helping Animals with Evidence-Based Decision Making”.

Dr. Anderson will describe the ways the animal protection movement uses psychology to support their decision-making through the lens of Faunalytics’ recent studies. Research topics covered in this talk will include donation and donation appeals (identifiable victim or statistical appeal?), as well as studies focusing on diet–vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores who include plant-based substitutes–and factors affecting advocate retention (e.g. compassion fatigue, organizational factors). Dr. Anderson will also provide some information about how to support nonprofit research in general or animal nonprofit research in general or animal protection in particular, for anyone interested in this career path.

The talk will be held in Tory Building, Room 208, from 2:30-4pm.
