If you’ve been in the CS community or have talked to people working in tech, chances are that you’ve heard the word ‘Git’ thrown around 🧐! With its handy purposes that can save loads of anguish if used properly, it’s no surprise that (G)it’s commonly used in the workforce. So…

What is Git? And why is it useful?

Git is a commonly used version control system, a system that is responsible for recording changes to files (usually with code) over a period. And with the help of Github (a site that allows you to store your code on the cloud) the user, you(!!) can recover past versions of these files, and merge latest changes onto them. So, (G)it’s pretty useful, don’t you think?

Join us with Deen Haque, a third year CS student who is kind enough to share his knowledge with all of you! He will be guiding us all through this beginner friendly workshop, where we discuss useful topics such as the git syntax and terminologies, as well as a small activity to try out what you have learned!

**To make the most out of your experience, we strongly recommend that prior to this event, you simply need to:

  1.  Download Git onto your computer (it can be downloaded through this link: https://git-scm.com/downloads) and get (G)it set up by clicking through all the default options
  2. Create a GitHub account.

If you have any questions on this process, we will be on the Zoom call at 5:45pm (15 mins before the workshop), to help, so please feel free to ask us questions then!

We hope you join us, and let’s Git it! 😎🔥🔥
