First Year Connections

The First Year Connections (FYC) Mentorship Program supports the social and academic transition of first-year students during their first six weeks of studies at Carleton University. The FYC Program will be running from Monday January 5th to Friday February 13th for the 2026 winter term.

The first few weeks of university are filled with lots of exciting and new opportunities. Mentors are helpful in navigating all the new information.

Connecting with a Peer Mentor means you will have someone to answer your questions, connect you with campus resources, help you learn more about your program, and show you how to get involved on campus. FYC Peer Mentors are trained in providing great resources and support for first-year students and will help you achieve a great start here at Carleton.

How does it work?

You will be paired with an upper year student who is in a similar academic program as yourself and has the skills needed to help you along your way as you adjust to your new community. You will connect with your Peer Mentor for 30 minutes each week from the first week of classes until the midterm reading break. The First Year Connections program operates in-person on campus with some virtual components through Microsoft Teams. Please note that we offer specialized partner streams to ensure students feel as supported as possible in their transition to university.

How can I register?

Registration for Winter 2026 is now open! Registration is free for first-year undergraduate students. Upper year students who are seeking to strengthen their commitment to academic success and enhance their social engagement on campus are also welcome to register.
