If you haven’t participated in an Accessible Learning workshop yet, now is the time to take advantage of this great professional development opportunity. There are two workshops left for the winter 2014 term – February 27 from 1-3:30 p.m. and March 19 from 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Presented by the Educational Development Centre in partnership with the Paul Menton Centre, this workshop will help you gain the knowledge and skills to effectively support students with disabilities and other diverse learners in your courses. Your participation will allow Carleton to meet its legal obligation for educator training under the AODA legislation.
The workshop features contributions from President Roseann O’Reilly Runte, faculty members, instructors, students and staff through a series of videos on barriers to learning, accessibility and accommodations. Some of the topics covered include:
- Understanding various barriers to learning
- Examining personal pedagogical conceptions
- Incorporating instructional models to promote accessibility
- Planning for accommodations
- Hearing from students and faculty about their experiences
