- Compliance & Pedagogical Training
- Want to complete your Compliance Training? Login to Carleton Central, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click on “Online Courses.” The first five online modules you see (3 on AODA, 1 on Workplace Violence and Harassment, and 1 on Worker Health and Safety) are the workshops you need to do to complete your Compliance Training. - Did you know that you can keep track of your progress towards completing Compliance Training via Carleton Central? After you login, click on the “Employee Services” tab, then click on “Learning and Professional Development,” and finally click on “Completed Workshops.” All completed Compliance Training modules are displayed here. For modules hosted in Carleton Central, completion is captured instantly; for modules hosted in cuLearn, completion will be recorded manually in approximately 1 week’s time. While the list of mandatory training sessions will evolve as the Province of Ontario rolls out its modules, for the Fall of 2014, Compliance Training for TAs currently consists of five online modules:
- Three modules on AODA (one on Carleton Central, two on cuLearn)
- One module on Workplace Violence and Harassment Prevention (Carleton Central)
- One module on Environmental Health and Safety (cuLearn)

If you review your Compliance Training history and you have completed all five of these, then you have done everything you need to do to earn your five hours of paid Compliance Training. (Oct. 3 / 2014)

- EDC's TA Training Day Event
- The EDC’s winter 2018 “TA Training Day” event will take place on Saturday, January 20th, 10am-4pm, on the 3rd floor of Richcraft Hall. The full programme is available here.
- EDC Certificate Programs
- Details and invitations for Certificate Ceremony for 2017-2018 graduates will be available in late September / early October. The event will take place during the Fall 2018 Reading Week. (Jan. 5 / 2018)
- Registration for the fall 2018 cohort of “Preparing to Teach” will open in August 2018. Note that there is no Winter 2018 cohort for the program. (Jan. 5 / 2018)

- Seven universities recently combined to form the Ontario Consortium for Graduate Professional Skills and have produced 18 free online training modules on a variety of topics for grad students (some academic or research oriented, other oriented towards pedagogy, and still others oriented towards preparing for the non-academic job market). While these training options aren’t currently part of paid training on campus, you should definitely check them out. (Sept. 5 / 2014)
- Interested in the future of the PhD in the humanities? Check out the MLA’s new Report and SSHRCC’s White Paper on reforming the Doctoral program. How important is it for doctoral students to get involved in pedagogical training and professional development? If these reports are any indication, then it is becoming increasingly crucial.
