I-CUREUS provides matching funding for undergraduate students working in faculty research labs here at Carleton. Sponsored by the Office of the Provost and managed by the Discovery Centre for Undergraduate Research and Engagement, the I-CUREUS award has been given out since the opening of the Discovery Centre in October 2013.
In 2013, we had 34 award winners; in 2014, we had 43. With the funds allocated for the 2015-16 academic year, we have had 39 successful I-CUREUS applicants. The application for the upcoming year will open in August.
From our data so far, we see that most of our applicants are from third and fourth year, and are studying full-time. A majority of applications are for both Fall and Winter term. Although I-CUREUS is indeed popular with Engineering and Science students, we are having an encouraging number of applications from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
We are continuing to receive applications for the Winter term, and we would to particularly invite those from the Arts and Social Science – as well as from the Faculty of Public Administration to consider this route to financing undergraduate experiential learning ventures. We look forward to continuing the upward trend in undergraduate research here on Carleton’s campus.
