Trinda Crippin is a lab coordinator in the Department of Chemistry. When in-person access to campus was limited, Trinda reimagined food science labs with a focus on experiential learning and student-centered approaches. She developed a new structure for virtual labs based on core program learning outcomes: problem solving and critical thinking skills. These student-centered approaches were shared and adopted by colleagues. With a return to in-person labs, Trinda’s innovations continue to be used and shape how students learn in chemistry and food science, earning her the 2022 Excellence in Learning Support Award.
