We are excited to invite you to a book launch for Dr. Alan Steele’s (Department of Electronics, Carleton University) latest publication, Experiential Learning in Engineering Education (2023, CRC Press). The book represents extensive research into the past, present, and future of university engineering education and a commitment to advancing learning through laboratories, projects, undergraduate research, student societies, co-op, and more.
Experiential learning (EL) refers to learning through meaningful participation in and structured reflection on real or simulated experiences. EL is the cornerstone of modern engineering education (and many other professions), bridging the gap between theory and practice. It immerses students in real-world scenarios, encouraging them to apply classroom knowledge to tangible, authentic challenges. Through hands-on projects, internships, and collaborative problem-solving, students gain technical expertise while also developing crucial skills in critical thinking, adaptability, and teamwork. Experiential learning equips future engineers with practical competence and nurtures a mindset of lifelong learning, innovation, and resilience, ensuring they are well-prepared for the dynamic demands of the engineering profession.
This book launch invites instructors of all professions, not only engineering, to consider ways to shape education through experiential learning. This is an opportunity to engage with Dr. Steele and connect with other educators of the professions. We encourage you to arrive at the session prepared to engage in a stimulating conversation.
This event is offered in person and online. Please register using the form below.
