CDF Workshop: Incorporating Effective Online Activities and Communication Strategies into Your Course

June 2, 2022 at 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM

Cost:Free

Facilitator: Maristela Petrovic-Dzerdz (TLS)

Digital technologies enable us to provide a variety of learning and communication opportunities. Additionally, they allow us to reach out to and actively engage course participants, and to frequently gauge students’ progress.

In this online session, we will showcase several “best-selling” engagement and communication online activities, which have been successfully incorporated in many Carleton courses in previous years, and we will focus on the pedagogical principles behind them, rather than technical solutions. The activities we will discuss include:

  • Weekly Announcements
  • Ask the Instructor forum
  • Introductory course activities
  • Synchronous online meetings and engagement
  • Discussion forums
  • Student feedback
  • Weekly learning responses
  • Quizzes for learning
  • “Path to success” in your course

If you complete this workshop, you should be able to:

  • Recall several questions to consider when planning communication activities during course design phase
  • Explain why communication as an essential element of teaching and engagement
  • Implement strategies to engage and communicate with students online
  • “Path to success in your course” module

This is part of Course Design Fundamentalsoffered by TLS. Participants who complete five workshops and a guided reflection of the experience will receive a letter of completion to include in their teaching dossier. To enrol in the CDF program, please complete this form and register for the workshops here.

Space is limited. Please register in advance by filling out the form below.
