Danielle Kinsey
History professor Danielle Kinsey has translated her knowledge of empires into award-winning work. As the recipient of a 2014 New Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award, she has lived up to her accolades by showing her students just how interesting the history of empires can be – sometimes in unorthodox ways.
Danielle relates her work to the pop culture of today, giving her students free reign to critique empires they think are interesting, like Star Wars or the video game Age of Empires. Her main goal is to de-emphasize facts and focus on structures, power and the larger concepts of empires.
In 2007, Danielle received the James Lougheed Award of Distinction and was a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Doctoral Fellow.
In 2019, Danielle Kinsey was awarded the Carleton University Excellence in Blended and Online Teaching Award.
