David Dean
History professor David Dean is the winner of a 2016 Provost’s Fellowship in Teaching Award for his innovative and creative work bringing history off the page.
David encourages artistic expression in his courses, allowing students to create documentary films, podcasts, dances, plays and visual art to better understand the connection between public history and historical representation.
David has been active in Ottawa’s Workers’ History Museum as a collaborator, advisor and patron, a life member of Clare Hall in Cambridge and a Fellow of Britain’s Royal Historical Society. David, is also a member of the editorial board of Early Theatre and an adjunct professor in the Department of Theatre at the University of Ottawa.
As a minted Carleton teaching fellow, David uses his knowledge to mentor new faculty on student engagement, focusing on creating and maintaining connections to the community to facilitate learning.
