Renate Ysseldyk
Renate Ysseldyk is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Sciences. Since starting at Carleton in 2014, she has consistently and enthusiastically engaged with students through her innovative teaching practices and new course development. Renate brings her teaching philosophy into action by incorporating the use of relevant videos, in-class activities (e.g., her unique Lego activity), cutting edge research findings, experiential learning and humour. She also integrates community-engaged pedagogy in order to make more concrete links between the classroom and broader society.
As both a lecturer and student mentor, she passionately challenges students to critically think beyond traditional conceptualizations of “health” and “science” to consider a variety of research methodologies and social determinates of health as they continue with their academic program.
In 2018, Renate was awarded the New Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award for the enthusiasm and innovation she brings to the classroom.
