Shannon Butler
Sprott School of Business accounting professor Shannon Butler received a 2016 Carleton University Excellence in Teaching with Technology Award for her work introducing flipped classrooms and new technology into her accounting courses.
Shannon’s experimentation with live-feed technology in the classroom – such as a document camera app and an online tool allowing students to contribute in real time – are some of the innovations she has brought to Carleton.
Her use of technology is highlighted by the flipped classroom learning style, where students are provided with material ahead of time to come to class prepared to work through problems together rather than receive a lecture.
Students praise Shannon for her innovation in the classroom, improving communication with students, as well as her approachability and compassion.
