Vida Panitch
Vida Panitch won the 2013 New Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award for her creative and interactive approach to promoting classroom discussions.
The philosophy professor used in-class debates of day-to-day ethical issues to challenge how we reason in public forums. But it was a creative lesson with a bowl of candy that prompted students to understand competing principles of inequality and wealth distribution that led to her award. Vida has used the tactic successfully in small seminars and large classrooms.
Her research interests include political philosophy and applied ethics, exploring the moral boundaries of markets, specifically those dealing with the human body.
Vida’s contributions in numerous publications, including those published in the Journal of Applied Philosophy and the Journal of Global Ethics, reflect her research interests and passions of equality, justice and philosophy.
