These questions will not be evaluated. They are a tool to help Rachelle see how you all understand and respond to the FTL Guide and to help you to engage more actively with the reading.

Please respond to only 1 question in each section. Refer explicitly to material in the guide in your answers. Your responses should be roughly 100-200 words each.

You will notice that below each question is a description of the Career Competency(ies) you will be using in your response. We will be talking more about Carleton’s Career Competencies (transferable employability skills for students) in facilitator training this year.

Team Meetings

What are some benefits we want facilitators to receive from team meetings? Which of these benefits do you feel most and least confident providing, and why? What information, resources, or support would help?

Reviewing Workshop Plans

When you’ve received feedback on your own workshop plans, what did you find most and least helpful (1-2 of each)? Consider content, style/format, and anything else that matters to you.

“What to Look for in a Workshop Plan” lists many items to consider. Identify a couple that you consider important but may have neglected (as a facilitator/FTL). How might paying more attention to these improve the workshops and student learning?

Many FTLs find that tracking and enforcing their team members’ submission/revision deadlines is a challenge. How do you feel about your ability in this area? What steps will you take to make this part of the job easier and less stressful for yourself and your team?

Workshop Observations

How would you characterize your experience of having your workshops observed by an FTL? For example, how did you feel, did you do anything differently in observed workshops, how did students respond, etc.? How did your experience being observed change over time? What lessons do you want to remember as you start your year as an FTL?

FTL Survival Guide

The Survival Guide contains tips from many former FTLs. For each major section (Admin & Planning, Wellness, Team Meeting Preparation, Workshop Plan Feedback, and the miscellaneous tips in the table at the end), identify 1 favourite tip and 1 tip you think wouldn’t work for you. Briefly explain your choices.
