Second Language Research Forum is an international conference on Second Language Acquisition (SLA) organized and run by graduate students. Since its first event in 1977, the conference has attracted established and budding scholars to “present work on a wide variety of theoretical and empirical issues in SLA including cognitive, linguistic and sociolinguistic SLA research conducted in both laboratory and classroom settings”.  Being one of the premier conferences in the field, an invitation to present at the event is coveted by all applicants. This year, several ALDS students and faculty have been selected to present their research at SLRF 2018, which is taking place October 26-28 in Montreal and is hosted by Universite de Quebec a Montreal (UQAM). Alexandra Ross, a recent MA graduate, will present a paper based on her thesis. While a group of our graduate students (Yushi Bu, Hala El-Youssef, Julian Heidt, Abdizalon Mohamed, Malak Swaie, and others) will examine the process of and resulting choices made in providing written corrective feedback to L2 English for Academic Purposes learners – a project they completed as part of a graduate seminar on pedagogical grammar led by Professor Eva Kartchava. Dr. Michael Rodgers and Dr. Eva Kartchava will also participate in two colloquia – on “The potential of audio-visual input for language learning” (Dr. Rodgers) and “Current Issues in corrective feedback in SLA: Theory, research and implications” (Dr. Kartchava).
