Congratulations to ALDS graduate student Nico Mjones on the publication of their recent and timely post on the Canadian Language Museum blog.

“When the war in Ukraine kicked off in the news, I was obsessing over watching what was happening, but realized it was not helpful nor good for myself. I decided to do something productive and started working on a post for the museum on the history and status of the Ukrainian language in Canada. The post discusses things like the impact of Ukrainian Canadians on Official Multiculturalism policies by the government, the geography of the Ukrainian language in Canada, and the influence of English on Canadian Ukrainian.”

Nico’s studies focus on the integration of linguistics with curation and they are currently completing an MA in ALDS and a diploma in Curatorial Studies.
