Seminar in University Teaching Annual Teaching Colloquium

November 29, 2012 at 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM

Location:215 Paterson Hall
Cost:Free

* Co-sponsored by the School of Linguistics and Language Studies & the Department of Psychology

Our annual teaching colloquium is associated with the graduate seminar in university teaching offered by Linguistics and Psychology. We begin with an interactive panel session followed by a poster session of the students’ research about teaching and learning. As always, the evening promises to be an engaging opportunity for “good talk about good teaching.” We hope you’ll join us.

Invited Panel: Supporting First-Year Students’ Learning

A panel of faculty members and students from the Arts One Program, the Centre for Initiatives in Education and the Faculty of Engineering will speak about initiatives in their programs that focus on first-year student success. This will be the beginning of our discussion of how we can best support student learning in a diversity of contexts.

Seminar in University Teaching Disciplinary Research Posters

Following the panel and discussion, attendees will be invited to interact with students from the Seminar in University Teaching to discuss their poster presentations. The students’ research varies widely. Each draws on the scholarship of teaching to provide new approaches to our classroom practice.

It’s an evening that’s sure to provide new ideas about our work as teachers.
