Accessibility Features in Learning Spaces

Carleton University is committed to creating an environment in which everyone has access and opportunity to fully participate and thrive in all aspects of campus life. There are several accessibility options that learning spaces at Carleton may possess. Click on the links below to see a list of all the learning spaces that feature the respective accessibility option.

• Accessible door button: there is an automatic door opener to get in/out of the classroom.
• Flexible seating: the room contains desk space that can be moved and vertically adjusted for students with disabilities, including those who use wheelchairs.
• Adjustable podium/instructor desk: there is a desk space at the front of the room that can be moved and adjusted vertically for instructors with disabilities, including those who use wheelchairs.
• Assistive listening device: capable of equipping deaf or hard of hearing students with a receiver device to hook up into their own personal hearing instrument, or the ability to tune into the frequency of the instructor microphone on their phone. This feature is only present in rooms equipped with room microphones/speakers.
• Adjustable student table available
• Adjustable lighting: rooms that include multiple preset lighting conditions, as opposed to simple on/off switches. The lighting conditions provide an added level of flexibility for instructors and learners with vision needs.
