A number of experiential learning opportunities are available for students to contribute to the professional work of Factive Consulting under the guidance of Dr. Dean Laplonge, Visiting Fellow in Residence in the Arthur Kroeger College of Public Affairs at Carleton University.
Approach
- Students will meet with Dean to discuss the aims of their project, develop a work plan, and agree on a timeframe for delivery of drafts and consultations sessions.
- Each experiential learning opportunity will include a minimum of three consultations sessions with Dean.
Eligible Students
- Currently enrolled in third or fourth year of the Bachelor of Global and International Studies (BGInS) program.
- Have a CGPA of 8 or above.
- Have previously completed at least one course on gender as part of their undergraduate studies.
- Have some existing knowledge of or interest in gender issues, including gender-based violence, in the workplace.

- Forms will be forwarded to Dr. Dean Laplonge, the BGInS Visiting Fellow and head of Factive Consulting (with CGPA and student number information redacted)
- Successful students will be contacted by Monday September 20.
- Be prepared to meet with Dr. Laplonge on September 22, time and location to be announced.
Opportunity 1 – Developing Gender Training Content (Masculinities and GBV)
Student will research and develop ideas for the content of an online training course in working with men and boys to address gender-based violence. Content will include PowerPoint presentations and self-guided learning activities for the training participants. Examples of similar training courses that have been delivered to the same cohort of participants will be provided as guidance. There are two positions available for this work and the two students are expected to collaborate on work.
Expected time commitment: 10 hours per student
Expected timeframe: 2 weeks starting September 20
Financial award: $250 per student
Opportunity 2 – Developing Gender Training Content (Workplace GBV Grievance Mechanisms)
Student will research and develop ideas for the content of an online train-the trainer course in supporting businesses to develop a workers’ grievance mechanism that is suitable for managing reports of workplace gender-based violence (e.g., sexual harassment). Content will include PowerPoint presentations and self-guided learning activities for the training participants. Examples of similar training courses that have been delivered to a similar cohort of participants will be provided as guidance. There are two positions available for this work and the two students are expected to collaborate on work.
Expected time commitment: 15 hours per student

Financial award: $375 per student
Opportunity 3 – Developing Gender Training Content (Workplace GBV M&E Framework)
Student will research and develop ideas for the content of an online train-the trainer course in supporting businesses to develop a monitoring and evaluation framework for GBV prevention and initiatives. Content will include PowerPoint presentations and self-guided learning activities for the training participants. Examples of similar training courses that have been delivered to a similar cohort of participants will be provided as guidance. There are two positions available for this work and the two students are expected to collaborate on work.

Opportunity 4 – Developing a Gender Diagnostic Tool
Student will help develop a gender diagnostic tool that can be used assess if a company is meeting a range of gender requirements as part of its social risk management. The tool will be developed from existing content. Some new content may need to be brainstormed.

Expected timeframe: 3 weeks starting September 20

Opportunity 5 – Developing Gender Training Content (Communicating GBV in Business)
Student will develop ideas for how to engage business managers in discussions about gender-based violence in different cultural contexts. The student will be provided with a list of specific barriers or issues to consider, and will be expected to research existing responses that have shown to work. Examples of similar training courses that have been delivered to a similar cohort of participants will be provided as guidance. There are two positions available for this work and the two students are expected to work together.

Opportunity 6 – Writing a Business Case Study
Student will write the draft content for a case study that describes a specific business’ efforts to address the risks of gender-based violence linked to its operations, including an overview of what the business has done to improve opportunities for women in its workforce. All relevant documentation will be provided for the student to review and draw from. Examples of previously written case studies will also be provided as guidance.
