If you are a student and employee, you need to notify the Registrar’s Office and Human Resources of the change. Please provide both offices a copy of your citizenship document.
If you are a Carleton employee, you only need to notify Human Resources. Please provide a copy of your citizenship document by email in the form of a secure PDF.

If you are a Carleton University student and employee, you need to notify the Registrar’s Office and Human Resources. Contact the Registrar’s Office and provide them proof of your Permanent Residency. You must also submit your new Social Insurance Number document to Human Resources by email in the form of a secure PDF.
If you are a Carleton University employee, you will only need to notify Human Resources. Please submit proof of your PR status and new Social Insurance Number document to Human Resources by email in the form of a secure PDF.

To either apply, or obtain confirmation of a your SIN, gather all of the required original documents to prove your identity and status in Canada and take them to the nearest Service Canada point of service.

- Certificate of Canadian Citizenship
Permanent Residents - Permanent Resident Card
- Confirmation of Permanent Residence, plus a travel document or an alternate photo identification
- Record or Verification of Landing
- Status Verification or Verification of Status
Temporary Residents - Work Permit
- Study Permit
- A study permit that indicates that the permit holder “may accept employment’ or “may work” in Canada OR a study permit and a “confirmation to work of campus” letter. If neither of these requirements are met, contact CIC to verify your eligibility to apply for an amended study permit
