Senate met on October 20, 2023. Here are the highlights:
Over 1,200 Carleton Degrees Approved
Senate approved the graduation of 722 undergraduate students and 510 graduate students. The university congratulates all successful graduates and outstanding students and looks forward to celebrating their achievements at this year’s Fall Convocation on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
Senate Awards 55 Medals & Prizes
Senate approved 55 medals and prizes for outstanding academic achievement. These included 15 graduate medals and 40 undergraduate medals.
Academic Consideration Policy for Students in Medical or Other Extenuating Circumstances Approved
Senate approved the Academic Consideration Policy for Students in Medical or Other Extenuating Circumstances. With an online self-declaration form, this policy will aid the equitable provision of academic consideration to all students for a range of medical or other extenuating circumstances.
Senator Spotlight: Karen Taylor
Karen Taylor, with her extensive educational background, plays an instrumental role in Carleton University’s Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Department. She holds a B.A.Sc. from Concordia University, a B.Sc., an M.Sc., a Ph.D. from the University of Ottawa, and a P.Eng. Karen’s role in MAE is pivotal; shortly after joining the Faculty of Engineering and Design, she helped to develop the revised core engineering programme. She currently teaches several different courses within the MAE department and, most recently, has taken on the role of Associate Chair for Academic Advising. In addition to these roles, Karen serves as the Engineering Faculty Board Secretary.

The next Senate meeting is scheduled for November 24 at 2 p.m. The associated meeting materials and draft minutes will be posted on the Senate website a week before the meeting.
